Currently September

 

It’s hard to believe that we are a month into the school year, because I still feel like we are settling in to our schedule!  But it must be true because it’s time for another Currently with Farley!

Listening:  It’s quiet in my house.  Everyone is in bed….which is weird because I’m usually the first one in bed.  Tonight I blabbed with some of my bloggy besties and then I still had some stuff to finish up.  Totally worth it though!

Loving:  I’m usually in charge of packing school lunches…I have been for the last 10 years or so.  I’m not sure why, but it is my least favorite chore.  This week my husband volunteered to give me a vacation from lunch packing!  It’s the little things that make me happy!

Thinking:  The renovations are getting started in about a week!  I’m so excited.  The backyard is first, followed by the exterior paint, master bathroom and then finally my kitchen!!!  I am so excited!

Wanting: to see my friends Mrs. 3rd Grade, The Creative Classroom, and The Kinder Garden in “real” life.  Live and in person and not just on a computer screen.  Seriously.  My phone just beeped at me that I’m out of storage.  I’m pretty sure its from the 456 text messages in our group text!

Needing:  I need this long weekend.  I am planning on spending it organizing some things before the big house project starts, watching my girls dance at a football game and having dinner with some long time friends!  I can’t wait!

Goals:  I NEED to get back in the gym!  I NEED to organize my house, my closets are a mess and I really need to finish up some projects both for school and around the house!

I can’t wait to see what everyone else is Currently up to!

A Peek At My Week {August 17-21}

I’m linking up my plans again this week with the amazing Mrs. Wills for A Peek at My Week!

This week we will continue to learn how to do Morning Meeting.  Last week, we focused on learning our classroom expectations (we call them The 5 Ways to Be).  We learned one each day and made a looks like, sounds like chart for each.  We also learned how to share our News of the Day and end the meeting with a class cheer.  This week we will add another element and practice.

Back to School, Visual Plans, Freebies and Sale!

It’s here.  The first day of school!  I’m linking up my visual plans for a peek at my week! 


I’ve spent the last 2 weeks prepping my room and getting organized.  We’ve had Meet the Teacher….I’m ready to get started!

Here are my plans for the first week!

The first week will be busy with First Day Jitters, getting to know you activities and learning how to Table Talk!  Our first framework is called Collaborate and Communicate and we spend several days learning how to have conversations about our learning using activities and lesson from my Table Talk pack.  Once students learn how to “Table Talk,”  we use it all year long and across content areas!  This pack will take you through it step by step!

I love teaching math and I LOVE teaching multiplication!  It is so fun and they always come to thrid grade so excited to learn it!  I love using the picture book Each Orange Had Eight Slices to introduce multiplication and this summer I made a little journal companion to use with it!  I’m so excited to get started! I also LOVE Number Talks and I can’t wait to start them again this year!  If you haven’t already read about my love for Number Talks you can find that post HERE. 


I plan on beginning to introduce our new M.A.T.H. centers slowly this week.  I’ve learned over the years to take it very slow when introducing math centers and Daily 5.  The more intentional you are at the beginning of the year about teaching and practicing those procedures the more it will pay off in smooth sailing down the road!  I’m excited to get started and I love how cute my new board turned out!  The packs to create the bulletin boards are available in my TpT store!

2gether We Are Better {August}

I am so excited to be linking up with the amazing Ashley and Angie.  The topic this month is all about bulletin boards, which is perfect because I. Just. Finished. Mine!  We don’t officially report back until Tuesday, but I have to have my room done and ready before then.  I just can't sit through meetings with a mile long to-do list and the stress of finishing my room hanging over my head!

This first bulletin board is the one I posted a sneak peek of on my Instagram.




Several people asked about it so I posted it in my store, along with a version in primary colors that I made for my teammate.  This year I am all about simplifying and organizing.  We have A LOT going on, from my girls being crazy involved in high school and studio dance to our house remodel (that’s a whole other post!) so, I am working really hard to not bring work home with me every night and to not be asleep on the couch by 7 on a Friday night.  Which can’t happen since my girls will be dancing under the Friday Night Lights every Friday this fall!  SO….that is how this board came about.  I wanted a structure for math centers (sort of like Daily 5 is the structure for reading small groups).  I wanted something that would be consistent so that I am not constantly having to switch out activities and teach new center activities to the students.

This next board is the newest addition to my room and I am so excited about it!  Our school wide theme this year is based on Growth Mindset, which I am super passionate about!  I wanted something to remind students how to turn their negative, fixed mindset self talk into something positive and growth oriented.





These posters are available in my store, you can find them by clicking HERE.  The poster set comes with 4 sets of posters, only 3 are pictured here.  I couldn’t fit all 4 because my “Mindset,” banner hangs so low, but I also couldn’t raise the banner because it matches the ones on all of my other boards and they need to match.  You understand that right?!?  So, I plan on rotating the pictures because anytime you change it up a little they notice, which means they are looking at the board, which means the messages are seeping in!  Right?!?


Okay, about my cute banners.  I know what you want to ask me, are they from Amy Groesbeck?  The answer is….kind of!  I did buy her adorable editable pack and I LOVE them.  Then I went to Staples to have all the color prints done for ALL of my bulletin boards.  Then I calculated how much more it would be to print all of the letter for my banners.  Then I remembered that I own a Silhouette machine and that I could cut the banners from cardstock.  So, yes, they are absolutely inspired by her adorable letters that I did buy.  Hers are cuter though because they have the colored dots, mine are just plain black and white.














This last “board,” isn’t even really a board, but it is next to my desk.  I shamelessly show off adorable pictures of my family!  And, my newest addition, my framed Pride of Peoria award, because well, a girl only gets to be Pride of Peoria once and I’d like to be able to look at it on those hard days (because we all have them) and remember how it felt!

Five For Friday {July 31}

This week has been jammed packed with getting ready to head back to school!





I broke out one of my favorite back to school items this week, my Silhouette machine, and gave it a really good workout to start the week!





I was so excited to get into my classroom and get this board set up.  My goal this year is to simplify and organize!  I wanted a math center structure that would be easy for students to follow and easy for me to manage!





I posted this picture on Instagram and several people asked about my board.  So, it is now uploaded in my store!  There are two versions in my store, this one from my room and the one I made for my neighbor who uses primary colors in her room.

I decided that with school starting back up and my girls being crazy busy with their dance lives I needed to organize myself.  I need to make sure I am scheduling time to blog and create.  So, I found this fun planner and got busy organizing my life!






I walked into my classroom today to this nice little surprise……





It may not seem like much, but I have been begging for a horse shoe table for years now…and I finally have one!  It really doesn’t take much to make me happy!






My husband and I got to spend last weekend in the coolness of Show Low!  We went up for my school’s leadership retreat, my husband was asked to speak to the group about Growth Mindset.  It doesn’t matter how many times I listen to him speak, I am always amazed by what a great job he does!





This week has been chock full of group texts and coffee with my tribe folks.  I don’t know what I would do without their humor, creativity, and advice!  I am so thankful for all of them!  Mrs. 3rd Grade, The Kinder Garden, The Creative Classroom, you ladies are amazing and I am so blessed to call you my friends.



 
I also was blessed to have a coffee chat with Maribel from Learning in Wonderland this week.  She had some amazing advice to share with me and I am so thankful for her friendship! 
 
It’s hard to believe that this was our last week of summer.  Teachers report back on Tuesday and students start on the 10th.  I can’t wait to meet my new kiddos and get this year off to a great start!
